This child is full of energy! I caught a rare tranquil pose for the split second he stopped running around and slyly turned to see if I was still behind him. For my original watercolor painting, I worked from his photo, since there was not a chance that he would remain still long enough for me to paint him!

TROPICAL RAIN FOREST

Back in the day when I taught science to Middle School children, I created a website for my students where they could tour different ecological regions of the world through my travels.

Cairns, a city on the northeast coast of Australia, is part of a huge tropical rain forest.
It is also the closest city to the Great Barrier Reef. There, as in other rain forests
throughout the world (like Costa Rica, the Amazon, Puerto Rico, and Thailand), it rains
briefly, several times a day, with hot temperatures and poor soil. The vegetation
is lush and the kinds of animals are amazingly varied.
