White Pelicans Ocean Birds Painting

I can watch these amusing shore birds for hours! Their huge orange bills and beautiful white feathers glisten in the sunlight as they bob up and down on clear, blue shimmering waves. Sometimes, these pelicans form in masses looking like a large flotilla of ships! What a wonderful addition to a bright airy home with a beach theme.

For the shadows on this painting, I allowed the different colors I used (brown madder, verditer blue, quinacridone gold, and mineral violet to mingle. This entails using each watercolor paint separately, cleaning the brush between colors, and letting the next color just touch, then mingle with it. It gives a wonderful, not a boring gray tone, effect for the shadows!

  2. Beautiful watercolor of the pelicans. I have seen clusters of them when we visited out West. We drove by so fast I asked my hubs to go back for a closer look.
