Back in the day when I taught science to Middle School children, I created a website for my students where they could tour different ecological regions of the world through my travels.
Cairns, a city on the northeast coast of Australia, is part of a huge tropical rain forest.
It is also the closest city to the Great Barrier Reef. There, as in other rain forests
throughout the world (like Costa Rica, the Amazon, Puerto Rico, and Thailand), it rains
briefly, several times a day, with hot temperatures and poor soil. The vegetation
is lush and the kinds of animals are amazingly varied.

I really like all the photos of the tropical rain forest. I've been to Cairns myself and it was nice to see these tropical plants again.
